GUARDIAN PROGRAM
What is a Guardian Home?
A Guardian home or family allows us as breeders to place our breeding dogs, usually as puppies, in their permanent, loving, forever homes for the best life possible. We can only house so many in our personal home as pets and once retired they remain with us, so we have started this program to give any future breeding dogs the same loving care we give ours.
Guardian homes act as “foster homes” until the terms of agreement are satisfied and then full ownership will be transferred to the guardian. This avoids a kennel environment which embodies our philosophy of
HAPPY. HEALTHY. PUPPIES.
What is the benefit to you?
You will receive a puppy of top breeding quality of our choosing. Likely a pup you wouldn't invest in yourself. We choose our breeding dogs based on temperament first, keeping in mind they are for families, not just looks!
Your pup will be a low to non-shedding dog.
She will be your forever dog, enriching your life and providing companionship.
How do we benefit?
Our puppy/dog will be in a permanent, forever home, getting the attention and living environment conducive to creating an exceptional pet and allowing us to continue our breeding program.
What is the sacrifice for you?
We technically own the puppy/dog until the terms of agreement have been met. For females this can be approximately till age six. Males maybe six or seven years old. We could choose to retire a dog sooner if we determine they are not suited to motherhood or produce less desired results shedding, personality etc...
Your female dog will come live with us approximately one week before her due date and stay until the puppies are weaned at about 6 weeks (but will live with you during her pregnancy). We will allow agreed upon visits. Males will not need to leave you for extended periods (Though we do not place many males). Our research has led us to back to back breeding as it has been shown to be healthier for the mom! Provided we are able to place all the puppies ahead of time.
You must be available for us to take your dog for breeding related testing (scheduled in advance) and breeding.. For females you will experience her heat cycles and keep her away from male dogs during this time (and maybe female dogs if she is a bit hormonal). Males will need to be kept away from any female dog during their heat cycle and an intact male will seek them out.
What is the sacrifice for us?
We have to trust you with our breeding dog so we have to be sure we are a great match for each other.
We pay for all breeding related expenses (health testing, breeding, and pregnancy related medical care) and make all arrangements.
Requirements:
-You have to have great communication with myself and allow me to see my dog when I deem necessary through the duration of the contract.
-You must have previous dog ownership experience.
-The primary care giver must have a schedule that will allow for your dog to not be left alone for extended periods of time.
-Live within an hour or so of Ypsilanti, MI. The closer the better!
-Own your home and have a fully fenced back yard.
-Must not have an intact male living on premises or visits frequently.(Female guardians)
-Notify me immediately when our female dog comes in heat. We will train you in this area if necessary.
-Routine vet care (we pay for breeding related expenses, but you are responsible for routine care).
- Be willing and able to feed a raw natural diet approved by us, approximately 60 dollars a month.
-A willingness to accept and follow breeders recommendations for the dogs basic health care and veterinarian care, such as vaccines, the use of certain medications, flea and tick prevention, & heartworm.
-Ensure your puppy is well socialized and attend puppy obedience classes. Obtain Canine Good Citizen certificate.
-Ensure your female isn’t around intact males during her cycle. For males, ensure he never breeds to a female, unless it’s an approved breeding/timing by us.
-Use an approved groomer and keep up a tidy look especially near times that I need photos or close to breeding.
-If you need to relocate outside of our area, you must let us know as soon as possible so we can make fair arrangements, on a case by case basis and according to our written agreement.
